Dairy Barn Ventilation FAQs
How do I tell if my cows are overheated?
Rectal temp >101°F = overheated; rapid breathing or tongue out = severe. Add more fans or start them sooner.
What temperature should I set my curtains to?
Depends on cold barn vs warm barn philosophy. Quick guidance: top curtain closes at 20–32°F, bottom curtain opens by mid-40s, fully open by 55°.
When should I start tunnel mode?
Pusher fans at ~65°F, tunnel fans at ~75°F.
24V vs 240V curtain motors — which do I need?
24V is safer around livestock, limited to ~300ft. 240V handles longer runs but heavier and less torque-precise.
How often should I spray feedline soakers?
Every 15 min at 75°, every 4 min at 95°. Soak the hide, not the udder.
